Dussehra week stacks three kinds of demand onto the same days. People travel home for the holidays, tourists head to Mysuru, Kullu and Varanasi, and Bengalis fly to Kolkata for Durga Puja. Small airports like Mysuru and Bhuntar have very few flights, so fares there jump fastest.
| Occasion | Date |
|---|---|
| Sharad Navratri | 11–19 October |
| Durga Ashtami and Maha Navami (most of North India) | Monday, 19 October |
| Dussehra / Vijayadashami (most of India) | Tuesday, 20 October |
| Mysuru Dasara | 11–21 October |
| Jamboo Savari, Mysuru | Wednesday, 21 October |
| Bijoya Dashami (West Bengal) | Wednesday, 21 October |
Karnataka and West Bengal mark Vijayadashami on 21 October in 2026 because they follow different panchang rules.
Mysuru's Dasara is Karnataka's state festival, with an illuminated palace and the Jamboo Savari elephant procession. Kullu Dussehra brings hundreds of village deities to the Dhalpur maidan for a week-long fair. Varanasi's Ramnagar Ramlila and Delhi's Ramlila Maidan are among the best-known Ravan Dahan events. Bastar in Chhattisgarh holds one of India's longest Dussehra festivals.
Dussehra, or Vijayadashami, marks Lord Rama's victory over Ravana and Goddess Durga's victory over Mahishasura. It falls on the tenth day after Navratri. Across North India, towns burn giant effigies of Ravana after days of Ramlila performances.
