Best Dates to Fly for Durga Puja 2026

Fly out by 14–15 October and return from 24 October onward.

  • Outbound: Most people arrive before Shashthi (16 October), so 14–16 October is the peak. Flying on 12–13 October is usually cheaper.
  • Return: The return rush after Dashami (21 October) is often worse than the outbound one. Flights on 22–23 October are the hardest to get.
  • Planning Kali Puja or Diwali too?: Kali Puja and Diwali fall on 8 November, about two and a half weeks after Dashami. Most travellers make two separate trips.

Why Durga Puja Flights Get So Expensive

Lakhs of Bengalis working in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and abroad fly home to Kolkata in the same few days. Visitors from across India also come for the pandals. Routes with only one airline, like Kolkata–Deoghar, see the steepest jumps because there is no competition.

How to Save on Durga Puja Flights

  • Fly in before Mahalaya week: Arriving by 12–13 October avoids the Shashthi rush.
  • Try nearby airports: Durgapur can work for Asansol and Burdwan; Bagdogra for North Bengal.
  • Book the return first: The post-Dashami return is the scarcest leg, so lock it in early.
  • Fly mid-week: Tuesday and Wednesday flights are usually cheaper.
  • Set a fare alert: Track your route instead of checking manually.
